Little bit expensive, compared to other places. But the location is perfect if you want to be close to airport and busstation.
We were taken aback a bit by the bad reviews, but the one night we stayed there was perfect. The guy who worked there, was helpful. Always someone around to open the door (do make sure tho, bc you don't get a key).
Shower is hot and strong, bed is okay, aircon didn't work, but we did get a fan. Close to shopping mall with great foodcourt. Didn't feel like a dodgy area

The location is perfect if you are just staying one night in Guayaquil and leaving the next day. It's close to the bus station and the airport. The staff was really nice and the burgers were so good! One thing was that the lock on our door was broken so the security was quite poor. Don't expect a luxury hostel with lots of backpackers, it's really a place where people stay for just a night but it was perfect for this purpose.

We have mixed feelings about funky monkey. When we arrived there was nobody around and we had to wait more than five minutes until the owner came (only because two guys from the other side of the street saw us ringing the bell all the time and called him). We were really lucky it was not dark yet. The room was not super clean, but it was okay. The AC was working properly and there was a kitchen we could use. Also the location was nice. However, we wouldn't stay there again.
