Ok alternative for solo backpackers in San Jose. It is small and intimate with only small dorms including a couple of single beds in dorms. You can take a surf lesson, hangout on porch or shared living room or go down to beach or art galleries. Building is old and needs electric and water improvements but shower was warm enough. Only has old counter top two burner stove. With only 1 bathroom i would not want to stay if hostel is full. Only 5 guest when i stayed. Drinking water. About 5 cats.
