The Barrel Hostel is beach front and Home Away from Home, we truly care for ours guests and will do more than most for our guests. If you are learning or would like to learn how to surf , you can surf in front of the hostel, for the more experienced Popoyo surf break is only 10 min. Walking distance.
We are located in Playa Guasacate, also known as Playa Popoyo in the Las Salinas, Tola area.
The Barrel is a small Hostel, a total of 6 six rooms, 3 private and 3 shared with the unique distiction that all the rooms have its own private bathroom and fresh water, Gas Generator for when there is no electricity, water refills for your convenience. We also have a kitchen for our guests.

Nice staff and location at the beach. Little small rooms with one toilet/shower in one Which means waiting a lot to go to the toilet. Atmosphere is a little weird and not really social because there are of a lot of tables (better to make one big table). Kitchen is really hot and small. Still liked the stay because i was with friends

I constantly felt I was being ripped off.
First, checking in they said the hostel was full, while on the website they had multiple beds available. When booked on the website they seemed to have place all of the sudden.
Also when asking for a taxi the price they mentioned was double or maybe triple the regular price for the ride.
Hostels should be welcoming and protective of their guest instead instead of trying to rip them off.
The atmosphere was okay and it was clean. Just be careful

Popoyo een prachtig stukje Nicaragua met geweldig strand, surfvibes en een hele tranquilo sfeer. like it! Maar toch vond ik het hostel tegenvallen. Het is meer een verlaten/verouderd restaurant met veelste duurste prijzen. Er is niet echt een chillruimte, omdat je niet precies weet wat chillruimte of restuarent is. Het uitzicht is prachtig en met 10 stappen sta je op het strand. Keuken was echt oud en vies. Pannen waren niet mee te koken en in eentje zat zelfs een klein gat. Niet hygiënische.
