Beschrijving van de Accomodatie Inrichting

The guesthouse Santa Barbara is composed of two beautiful properties of distances about 80 meters apart. We are located in the historical village town of Chucuito, which was the capital of the Lupacan reign (the Tihuanaco culture before the Incan empire). According to the mythology, the founders arose from the depths of the Lake Titicaca. The lake had a span of approxiametely 8330 sq km, 204 km long and 65 km wide and had a depth of 281 m.
The first of the two was constructed in the times of Don Pedro Cutimbo who was Cacique and governor of Chucuito (around 1535-1580).The walls were destroyed various times by the cycles of the centuries, in the varying historical accounts. Finally in the beginning years of the 20th century, the building was reconstucted for the noble lady Bernardina Pinazo Fernandez Cutimbo of Cabala, a generous and strong-willed woman. Her descendents' brothers Bustinza Cabala opened the doors of this historical house to host tourists and travellers from places near and far.
The other property hosts three buildings, spread amongst an amazing setting of nature and tranquility. Here, you can awaken to breath-taking views of the sun rising over the mystical Lake Titicaca and the snow-capped mountain chain, then to the south the Andean landscapes of vibrant green mountains, and colorful countryside fields, alive with organic cultivation.
The constructions were made following concepts of ecological Andean techniques, utilizing what mother Earth gifts to us. The majority of materials, like the building stones for example, are dug right from these same lands and were used to construct these buildings, maintaining a close-to-Earth connection. The main language spoken is spanish (also known as 'castellano'), and also widely spoken among the natives of this region is Aymara, a language originating from before the Incan times. The natives of those times called themselves '' Lupacas'', meaning 'sons of the sun' (Lupi = sun, haque = man).
